'She did a beautiful job with the pre-record': Beyoncé has yet to comment on reports she mimed during her performance of the Star Spangled Banner at President Obama's second inauguration ceremony, but Aretha Franklin has made her feelings clearAll a lie: Officials stated that Beyonce decided to use the version of the National Anthem that she pre-recorded with the Marine Corps Band in the days prior to the InaugurationNerves: The singer is a strong supporter of President Obama and has performed at a number of events for him in the past, most notably she sang the First Couple's first dance at the 2009 inauguration

Did Beyonce fake it or sing live? She seems to have a knack for generating controversy :)

If Beyonce was not actually singing at the time of the broadcast, then she would not have needed to rip out her earpiece as she did so dramatically in the middle of her performance, right?

She has yet to comment on reports that she lip-synched when performing the Star Spangled Banner at President Obama's inauguration ceremony.
But one person not holding back with her crticism of Beyoncé's reported miming is Aretha Franklin, who admitted she 'cracked up' when she heard the news.

She said: 'When I heard the news this evening that she was pre-recorded I really laughed. I thought it was funny because the weather down there was about 46 or 44 degrees and for most singers that is just not good singing weather.
'When I heard that I just really cracked up. I thought it was really funny, but she did a beautiful job with the pre-record.'
And Aretha said that she had never even thought of miming when she performed My Country 'Tis of Thee four years ago.
She added: 'I wanted to give people the real thing and pre-recording never crossed my mind.'
Jennifer Lopez also addressed the rumours during an interview on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart on Tuesday night.
Asked her opinion on pre-recording the track for such a public event, Jennifer said: 'Sometimes it happens when you are in certain stadiums and certain venues and things, they do prerecord stuff because you're going to have that terrible slapback.'
She added: 'If I remember rightly, Whitney Houston was also recorded when she performed at the Super Bowl.
'And it was an amazing rendition - everyone loved it and it became a huge hit.'
Lopez's former American Idol co-star Steven Tyler weighed in too, saying ,that while he had never mimed, 'Beyonce's so hot she can do anything, let's get real'.
The controversy began when a spokesman for the Marine Band stated that she did not sing live.
Hours later, a Marine spokesman backed off the claim and insisted he didn't know one way or the other, 'no one in the Marine Band is in a position to assess whether it was live or pre-recorded'.
Earlier Tuesday Master Sgt. Kristin duBois said the band was notified at the last minute that Beyoncé would use a pre-recorded voice track.
But later Marine Corps spokesman Capt. Gregory Wolf said that because there was no opportunity for Beyonce to rehearse with the Marine Band, it was determined that a live performance by the band was ill advised. This is not the only time that Beyonce has been haunted by claims that she did not actually sing when she claimed to: in the 2009 Academy Awards, she starred in a musical number with the show's host, Hugh Jackman, and many believed that she did not actually sing.

Does it matter if she lip-synched or not?
