Mario’s off to Milan
MARIO BALOTELLI is on the verge of completing a £19.5million switch from Manchester City to AC Milan.
According to top Milan sources, the two clubs have all-but agreed a fee which will be paid in five annual instalments. The initial fee will be £17m with a further £2.5m performance-related add-ons.
Pending a medical, Balotelli will sign a 4½-year deal worth up to £180k a week gross.
Milan director Umberto Gandini confirmed the news on Twitter.
He wrote: "Transfer agreement for Balotelli signed with Manchester City. Medicals tomorrow in Milan, then personal terms until 2017 signing."
Talks have been ongoing over the last 24 hours and the breakthrough happened after Milan agreed to the performance-related clause.
The Italian giants’ hardline stance over the fee had a lot to do with the fact they will cough up an extra £45m on the striker’s wages.
The madcap forward had even given notice on his house and had started sending his possessions back to his home country.
And now Milan have finally struck a deal to sign Balotelli from the Premier League champions.
Balotelli often hit the headlines during his stint at City — although often not for footballing reasons.
He hit just one goal this season to the frustration of his boss Roberto Mancini, who had a famous bust-up with the troublesome forward earlier this month.
Mancini later said he would give Balotelli “100 more chances” but now appears to have performed a U-turn by sending the 22-year-old back to Italy.
City now have just Carlos Tevez, Edin Dzeko and Sergio Aguero as frontline choices.
