Pot pigs

William von Scheneidau, owner and founder of the BB Ranch in Seattle, Washington State on the US west coast, has stumbled upon a new diet for his pigs.
The very same farmer doesn't even smoke, but he's named them his "Pot Pigs". Ever since marijuana was legalised in the state, it seems locals have been coming up with ever more ingenious ways of using the weed.
Von Scheneidau makes use of the waste stems, stalks and leaves, as he would any other waste vegetable matter, to feed his pigs.
He's also adding beer and vodka to their troughs, would you believe it.
How have his pigs responded? Von Scheneidau says the marijuana-fed pigs just lie around and barely lift their heads.
Those who eat the feed gain weight 20% faster than those who don't, though they don't tend to eat any more food than the non-weed pigs.
But what does the pork taste like? Von Scheneidau says his customers describe the flavour as “more savoury” in “blind bacon tests.”
The meat itself tends to have a marbled, fattier texture and is later processed into bacon, prosciutto, sausage, pork chops and pulled pork.
