In an epic display of resilience, perseverance and sheer guts, Andy Murray finally filled the greatest void in British sport's trophy cabinet, beating Novak Djokovic 6-4, 7-5, 6-4 to become the first British man to win Wimbledon since 1936 and put himself in line for a knighthood. He nearly committed an equally historic faux-pas at the moment of triumph, having clambered up into the stands to embrace his coach, physio, dietician, fitness guru, girlfriend Kim Sears, best friend, father and a few chums along the way. On his way down again, he remembered that there was someone else seated just behind the players' box. To arguably the loudest cheers of the entire day, he returned to hug his mum, Judy.

When Murray was asked about wedding plans with his longtime girlfriend, 25-year old Kim Sears, he said:Marry Kim? I still haven't thought about it, says Andy despite seven-year romance and living with his girlfriend since 2010

Miss Sears was still a teenager in the sixth form when she met Murray through her father Nigel, the head of UK women’s tennis coaching.

The pair were introduced at a tournament in America and Murray wooed her with flowers and texts.
The couple moved in together  in 2009 before splitting briefly. Six months later, they reunited after discovering they were miserable apart.
Those close to Murray have said Miss Sears would be the perfect tennis wife because she brings ‘calmness’ to him while he  is on court.
Murray has hinted in the past that marriage is something Miss Sears would want, but has always said they were not at the right stage in their lives.
Last year he said: ‘I have no plans to get married right now. I am still fairly young. But we’ll see.’
