Could this pill be the solution to the anti-ageing battle?

Solution? Scientists say the new pill reduced the depth of crow's feet by an impressive 10 per cent
Skin saver: Lycopene, a compound found in tomatoes, is known to help battle ageing
From expensive creams to painfully expensive Botox injections, hanging on to your youthful looks can be an expensive business.
But the days of forking out a fortune on looking good could be coming to an end after German scientists discovered that an oral supplement containing plant compounds and vitamins could reduce the depth of crow's feet by an impressive 10 per cent.
Among the ingredients in the anti-wrinkle wonder pill were soy isoflavones, a substance called lycopene which is derived from tomatoes and vitamin C.
The choice of ingredients used in the pills drew on evidence that indicated that diet could affect skin quality and included important nutrients such as vitamin E and omega-3 fatty acids, which are commonly found in oily fish.
Participants in the study had silicone moulds made of crow's feet around the eyes and again after taking the supplements for 14 weeks.
The second set of moulds revealed a significant improvement in the depth of wrinkles.
The research, which was conducted in an independent laboratory, was then published in a peer-reviewed scientific publication called the International Journal of Cosmetic Science.
'We found that a significantly higher number of individuals consuming the test product showed increased levels of collagen after 14 weeks than those who consumed placebo products,' wrote the scientists in the report.
To our knowledge, this is the first published report of increased collagen production in skin as a result of an oral intervention.'Commenting on the study, Professor John Casey, vice-president for biological sciences at Unilever which commissioned the study, told the Sunday Times: 'It shows there is a link between dietary ingredients and the quality and the ageing rate of skin.
'We find it works better on deeper wrinkles.'
Although the supplement was tested exclusively on women, researchers said they had anecdotal evidence that effects were similar on men.
