Malaria vaccine ready in three years

The world’s first malaria vaccine could be available in as little as three years after British drugmaker GlaxoSmithKline’s candidate treatment passed a major testing milestone.

GSK is ready to take the first step in getting the vaccine to market after promising trial results showing it was effective in protecting children and babies from malaria for up to 18 months.
The pharmaceuticals giant plans to submit the vaccine to EU regulators next year, which means, if approved, it could be widely available by 2016.

The World Health Organisation has already indicated that a policy recommendation for the vaccine, the most advanced treatment anywhere in the world by at least 10 years, could be made by 2015 if it clears regulatory hurdles.

GSK scientists have spent nearly three decades developing a vaccine against malaria, one of the world’s deadliest diseases.

The vaccine has faced a number of setbacks during final-stage testing, but GSK and its partners believe the treatment has proven effective enough to make a “significant impact” on the health of millions of young children in Africa.

Question: Is Europe drinking panadol over Africa's headache? Why is Africa unable to take the bulls by the horn and solve some of her problems?

What do you think?

  2. The West would always see themselves as superior to us. We pay billion for a jobless oyibo to come amd work for us but we aren't prepared to employ a fellow graduate with PhD.
While Africa burns, Europe is at peace. They enjoy the best of medicare using Africa as a lab for developing medical advancements.

  3. Think about this..... Africa's loot, where are they?....In the West. If they are honest, why don't they return it? Instead, they will point us to the direction of IMF and World bank to borrow.

  5. Naija is the richest country in the world. The only country where more and more people plunder, rape and siphon her wealth and she still stands. If you do the same thing to US or UK or Germany for 6 months, a different kind of recession would emerge.
If Naija can do the right thing for 2 - 3yrs, exchange rate would be NGN1 - $200. US and UK will pay us to visit them....2-3yrs of doing the right thing
