It was all glitz and glamour at the MAMA event which took place last night at Durban in South Africa and it was quite electrifying. Nigerian artistes put up quite a good show with their performances and also won big last night. Celebs were out to out do each other, they all looked glammed up and the host of the event, actor, TV personality & stand-up comic Marlon Wayans cracked up the crowd with his jokes especially his clip on how Africans are perceived outside the continent. He was completely amazed by the city of Durban being his first time in Africa and he had hard time pronouncing most of the South African names. The mixology was very entertaining. It was a star-studded show. There were performances by Flavour, The Arrows, Sarkodie,Khuli Chana, DJ Tira, Diamond,Fally Ipupa,Phyno, D'banj, Tiwa, Davido, Dr Sid, Don Jazzy, Trey Songz, Mafikizolo, DI Clock,Big Nuz, DJ Vigi,Micheal Lowman and a soulful performance in honor of Nelson Mandela by Afro-Soul star Simphiwe Dana, the show came to a climax with French Montana's medley of his songs ''Pop That'', ''Freaks''& ''Aint Worried About Nothin''. Other artistes joined him on stage.
Speaking at the end of the show, Alex Okosi, Senior Vice President & Managing Director, Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) Africa, said: “Tonight’s
MAMA 2014 was truly spectacular and a true testament to the passion,
commitment and creativity of contemporary music, youth culture and
achievement on the African continent.”
While Desmond Golding, Head of Department of Economic Development & Tourism, KZN Province said, “The
