THE Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), Suleiman Abba has ordered the immediate removal of police road blocks across the country, even as he assured on improved response to distress calls from members of the public.

In a statement Sunday in Abuja by the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Emmanuel Ojukwu, he said the order from the police boss, is to check the re-emergence of the banned activity noticeably returning on highways in some parts of the country.

The statement reads in part “Abba has stated unequivocally that the order banning the setting up of police road-blocks nationwide is still strictly in force.

“In a directive issued to all Commands and Formations of the Force, the IGP warned that all semblances of police road-blocks and permanent check-points reportedly re-emerging in some parts of the country, especially in the South-East, South-South and South-West geo-political zones of Nigeria should immediately be dismantled.”

Abba described the trend as a serious violation of subsisting order on road-blocks, and warned that severe sanctions await any Police Commands, Formations and personnel who violate the order as he charged all commanders and heads of formation to ensure total compliance to the order and extensive visibility patrol and effective surveillance on the nation’s roads.
