Man buried alive by angry youths

Angry youths in Ohaji/Egbema council area of Imo State last Monday buried a 56-year old man alive over his alleged involvement in the murder of a prominent son of the community.
Informed sources say the victim, whose name was given as David and popularly known as DD, was buried alive in a nearby bush by angry youths of the community for allegedly being responsible for the death of one Celestine Offurum, who was killed in August.
Confirming the incident, the President-General of the community, Napoleon Amadi disclosed that the youths of the community, who suspected Umah of having killed Celestine through witchcraft, had taken laws into their hands by avenging the death of the deceased.
He explained that “it was during the search for the whereabouts of the deceased by villagers and vigilante team that they discovered that he had been buried in the bush.”
Amadi further noted that immediately the discovery was made, the police were alerted, adding that it was the Police that exhumed the body for autopsy.
In his reaction, the traditional ruler of the autonomous community, Eze Bonny Umah expressed deep regret over the action of the youths, who were believed to have been engineered by one of the community leaders. He lamented that they should have left the matter in the hands of the security agencies.
