Tragedy at the opening of Akwa Ibom International stadium

According to reports, three persons may have died and more than 20 injured in a stampede during the inauguration of the Akwa Ibom International Stadium, Uyo yesterday.
Security men at the gate of the stadium used tear gas canisters on those trying to gain entry into the stadium.
Some of the victims injured during the stampede could not get medical attention from the medical team stationed at the stadium.
The state Commissioner for Health, Mr. Emem-Abasi Bassey, confirmed the incident, but said no death has been recorded.
He added that 150 medical personnel were on ground to attend to injured victims.
The commissioner, however, attributed the stampede to excitement as many people wanted to gain access to the stadium at all cost.

When will we learn to do things the right way in Nigeria?
