Indian bride marries wedding guest after husband has epileptic seizure during ceremony.

An Indian bride left her fiancé at the altar mid-ceremony in order to marry a wedding guest instead after the would-be groom had an epileptic seizure.

The Independent and The Times of India reported that Jugal Kishore, 25, collapsed to the ground during the traditional exchange of “varmala” flower garlands in the town of Rampur, located in Uttar Pradesh.

The bride, 23-year-old Indira, was so angry that her family had been kept in the dark about Kishore’s epilepsy, she promptly chose wedding guest Harpal Singh, the brother-in-law of her sister, to marry her at the same ceremony instead.

Singh, clad in casual attire, jeans and a leather jacket, accepted her proposal after momentarily struggling to grasp the rapidly escalating situation.

Meanwhile, Kishore was treated at a nearby hospital and was appalled when he returned to find his bride-to-be espoused to another man.

The Times of India reported Kishore pleaded with Indira, telling her that he would not be able to face friends and neighbors if he returned without her, but the newlywed remained steadfast in her decision.

Kishore’s relatives even resorted to violence when diplomacy failed, brandishing spoons, plates, and dishes as weapons, but the young woman refused to change her mind.

Kishore and his relatives later filed a First Information Report at the local police station, which they eventually withdrew after family elders intervened. Police did, however, detain several wedding guests for questioning.

“Both families have amicably resolved the matter,” a station official told the Times. “The complaints have been withdrawn. Kishore and his family have now returned in peace to Moradabad.”
