Why This Beautiful Lady Is The Most Talked About Model At Fashion Week

Chantelle Brown-Young, 20 — also known as Winnie Harlow, an alter ego she created for herself to summon confidence, as she told Today.com — was diagnosed with the pigment disorder vitiligo when she was four years old. She first caught our attention after she was chosen as a contestant on America's Next Top Model back in May, and continues to flourish in the fashion industry, having landed campaigns with Desigual and Diesel. Just recently, she strutted the Madrid and New York Fashion Week runways for Desigual, reports the BBC.

"I feel like the industry is very much opening up, widening their eyes," Harlow told the BBC. "That's what people are looking for...something they can relate to, a real person." We couldn't agree more, and we're applauding this diversification. It's also worth noting that Harlow represents another group of women who are all too often excluded from runways: Black women. We've seen too many all-white fashion shows, and this is still a serious and persistent issue. We hope Harlow serves as a testament that these "outliers" stand up beautifully to society's standards — and will help herald change on the runway

"We believe in showing different types of body and beauty - celebrating uncommon beauties, this is what Diesel is and always has been about," Diesel artistic director Nicola Formichetti told E! News of the campaign.
"With this new campaign for SS15, we want to convey a message of inclusiveness and positivity - and all of our models are smiling which is unfortunately rare in this industry."
Harlow, who's real name is Chantelle Brown-Young, has previously said she was bullied as a child and called 'zebra' and 'cow' by her peers because of her vitiligo - which causes de-pigmentation of the skin in patches.
After ATNM, she smashed it at London Fashion Week, where she walked for Ashish.

Winne is living proof that we shouldn't let those that doubt us stop us from pursuing our dreams. Her strength and determination can inspire us all to live life to the full, whatever setbacks we may face.
Miss Harlow, we salute you.
