Decades after attending middle school in Miami Beach, Florida, two classmates ended up on different sides of the law.
In a Miami-Dade bond court earlier this week, Judge Mindy Glazer realized that she recognized burglary suspect Arthur Booth from their school days at Nautilus Middle School. When Glazer asked Booth if he attended the school, the suspect paused, before grabbing his head and breaking down in tears.
As Booth cried, Glazer recalled their younger years as middle schoolers. "This was the nicest kid in middle school; he was the best kid in middle school. I used to play football with him, all the kids, and look what has happened," she said.
Glazer also handed down words of encouragement, saying, "I am so sorry to see you there. Mr. Booth, I hope you are able to change your ways; good luck to you. What's sad is how old we've become. Good luck to you, sir. I hope you are able to come out of this okay, and just lead a lawful life."
Booth was charged with burglary, grand theft, fleeing and resisting arrest, according to NBC Los Angeles. His bond was set at $43,000.
