Child dies after being 'beaten by mum's lover for sneaking a slice of birthday cake'

A child has died after being allegedly beaten by his mum's boyfriend because he ate a slice of birthday cake.
Jack Garcia, 9, was handcuffed by Robert Wilson before being brutally punched, police said.
Wilson apparently became enraged when he saw the boy had snuck a slice of cake without his permission.
According to cops, Garcia was taken to hospital – where he clung to life for five days before tragically dying.
The 30-year-old allegedly battered the child and then refused to get him medical help for around four hours.
Another man at the house was forced to call the police after the boy's injuries began to worry him.
When cops arrived at the house in Washington, Garcia had stopped breathing.
Garcia's mum tried to persuade them nothing was wrong, reportedly telling them that he was just "congested".
Cops said the boy was bruised all over his body – with injuries to his face, neck, back, bum, legs and stomach.
Wilson was charged with first-degree assault and child abuse after being jailed.
Cops are reportedly trying to upgrade the charges following Garcia's death.
