She earned her millions as one of the original big five supermodels, the women who coined the phrase on the catwalk.
But
despite being associated with all things glamour and luxury in the late
Eighties and Nineties, Cindy Crawford has revealed it is when she is
living a stripped back existence, free of everything except life
necessities, she feels her true self
Speaking to American Vogue,
the stunning 49-year-old opened up the doors of her island getaway in
Ontario, Canada, which she and her husband Rande Gerber built seven
years ago.
For one
month every summer she retreats up there with her family, and is happy
to sit hour after hour and take in the natural beauty of her
surroundings, as she reclines on the dock.
The
former supermodel said she is also partial to what she calls 'granny
swims' with the other residents of the island community.
She
revealed: 'You're the real you up here. You never have your game face
on, your party face. When you’re getting dragged behind a boat on an
inner tube, it’s hard to have much of a facade.'
For a woman
who was at the height of her career one of the most recognisable faces
on the planet, she says she now relishes her anonymity: 'These days I’m
the perfect amount of famous: enough to get a dinner reservation but not
enough to get hassled.'
The
brunette also revealed she wishes she had the confidence she now has in
herself when she was at the height of her career saying she never had
that when she was strutting her stuff with fellow supermodels Lina
Evangelista, Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington and Claudia Schiffer.
