Former Bayelsa state Governor, Diepreye Alamieyeseigha is dead.
According to Channels Television, the former governor died of cardiac arrest on Saturday at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital after slipping into a coma two days ago and was placed on life support.
A 2013 request by the British government for Alamieyeseigha’s extradition to stand trial for fraud charges, was recently revived in the media.
It has not been confirmed if the former Bayelsa governor’s ailment has any connection to the reports being circulated.
Alamieyeseigha, who was facing money laundering charges in London, jumped bail and returned to Nigeria and has since then refused to answer summons for trial to continue.
He was aged 63.
May his soul rest in peace.
