The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources Ibe Kachikwu, has directed the Pipelines and Products Marketing Company (PPMC) and Petroleum Products Pricing and Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) to embark on special supply of petroleum products nationwide during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
Despite promises from the minister and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, to tackle the lingering fuel shortage, the scarcity has persisted for months.
Petrol sells for as high as N250 per litre as opposed to the official pump price of N87 naira.
In a statement signed by Ohi Alegbe, the Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division of the NNPC in Abuja on Sunday, the corporation said the special supply intervention mechanism would entail increasing the supply via massive truck-out to guarantee supply to all parts of the country.
The NNPC explained that it has significantly increased supply to locations such as Abuja, Kaduna, Kano, Enugu, Ibadan and Jos, to enhance free flow of products across the country during the festive period.
