''Coming To America’ Sequel Confirmed After 30 Years

Good news for ‘Coming To America’ fans who wore out their copies on VHS cassette tapes and DVDs: a sequel has been confirmed after 30 years!

The 1988 original starred Murphy, 56, and Arsenio Hall, 61, as African Prince Akeem and his man servant, Semmi. Prince Akeem travels to America to find his queen (a woman who will stimulate his intellect as well as his loins).
Prince Akeem is so pampered, that he has never bathed himself or wiped his own butt (“Oha, it is my twenty-first birthday. Do you think perhaps just once I might use the bathroom by myself?”).
There is no official release date for the much-anticipated sequel, but it is said to be in production.
Thanks to reruns on cable TV, Coming To America has gained a new following over the decades.
Some fans even created memes of mock movie posters.

via Vlad TV –The rumor was actually started when in March, Murphy himself, tweeted an image of actress Vanessa Bell Calloway that bore a caption reading, “Coming to America sequel?” This week the imminence of a part-two to the 80’s classic received a confirmation with the naming of the film’s director and screenwriter.
Black-ish creator and Girls Trip co-writer Kenya Barris has been tapped to rewrite the script and Jonathan Levine of The Wackness, 50/50, and The Night Before will direct the Kevin Misher production. They replace original writers Barry Blaustein and David Sheffield, original director John Landis and producers of the 1988 original, George Folsey, Jr. and Robert D. Wachs. There has been no word yet on whether actors Eddie Murphy, Arsenio Hall, James Earl Jones, Shari Headley or John Amos will be returning for the sequel.
