Alade market razed by fire

Alade market fire


The popular Alade market at Allen Junction in Ikeja Lagos, known for bureau-de-change activities and boutiques, was on Sunday evening gutted by fire, the National Emergency Management Agency has said.
Although, details of the incident are still sketchy, sources said the fire which started around 7 pm was caused by power surge and was extensive.
The cause and extent of the fire is not yet ascertained, but  nine shops were affected, while the timely arrival of rescue agencies saved the market from being completely razed down.
“After fire outbreak this evening, timely arrival of response agencies saved Alade Market on Allen Avenue, Ikeja, Lagos. 9 shops were affected,” NEMA’s spokesperson, Yushau Shuaib, said in. a one-paragraph statement.
Director of Lagos State Fire Service, Razaq Fadipe, who confirmed the incident said, “We got a distress call this evening that Alade Market was on fire. We have deployed a team from Alausa station to the place. The fire is extensive, but as I am talking to you, we are working hard to put it out.”
Also, The state police command spokesman, Ngozi Braide, said policemen had been deployed to the area to prevent looting.

  1. There has been a lot of fire outbreaks in Lagos in the past 6 months. Is this a ploy by the Lagos state government to forcibly reclaim land from people in the affected communities or just mere coincidence?
    I wonder.
