Don't you think this issue of tinted glasses is absolute nonsense? Most SUVs come with factory fitted tinted glasses at the back. Now, the Nigerian Police require an owner to get a permit for this. This permit costs anything from N15,000 to N25,000 . The police will tell you it's a directive from the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Can someone explain how the permit can prevent the use of a car from (the commission of) crime? As the same criminals can still pay and get it also. Or should I break my rear windows that are factory tinted because of UV protective windows from this hot sun rays? Or should I go and replace them after buying them from manufacturers because the police are not competent/capable of fighting crime? Why subject me to spending more money which I don't have to obtain a tint permit? For Nigerians to be subjected to any sort of whim(s), directive(s) and caprice(s) of the IGP is sheer madness. What is more annoying is that this is a country with millions of lawyers and professionals who are educated, yet we allow this travesty to go on unchallenged? We must say a resounding NO to this obnoxious and vexatious directive from the IGP! This is broad daylight extortion and can only happen in Nigeria because they've come to believe that we have the most docile and weak citizens that can NEVER speak up for themselves. If you believe in standing up and fighting for your right, please broadcast this. Where in the world do people break the factory fitted tinted rear glasses of their SUVs because of (the) police ? Does it make sense to destroy your SUV's manufacturer's rear glasses and replace them with even sub-standard ones? It is high time we let the IGP and his ilk(s) know that we are not so stupid to be taken for granted! Or to be milked for cash whenever those in power need extra funds.
LAWYERS stand up against this! All social and traditional media ACTIVISTS need to stand up against this! If the IGP doesn't have work to do anymore, let him resign.
If you don't forward this message, you're part of those watching and allowing this country rot.
Enough is Enough.
The broadcast above (repeated verbatim) has been making the rounds and I just wanted to get some feelers on it.
What is your take on it?
Nigerian policemen have been off our roads for a while. I guess the IGP has finally succumbed to allow them obtain money from motorists and other road users under the guise of 'tinted glass permit'. Jobless people.
