Does one need a degree to succeed in Naija or in life?
I met a disillusioned undergraduate who feels passionate about dropping out of school, citing the number of billionaires that took that road. He says the standard of Higher Institutions in Naija are deplorable and going downhill by the minute so why bother?
He said categorically that one can be self employed and successful without a university degree. Moreover most graduates are academically deficient because they bribe their way through school either in cash or in kind and learn absolutely but cultism and prostitution .
Any advice for him please? He needs your help.
He has a point there. The employment system in Nigeria places a premium on paper qualification(type of degree obtained in school) The personal skills or experience of the individual is not considered in any way. This has given rise to students doing 'whatever' to get the right certificates.
ReplyDeleteThe disillusioned undergrad should identify what his major interest is,horn his skills there and then earn his living from it.
