The crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party has turned up a new gear as the National Working Committee in its emergency meeting earlier today resolved to suspend the embattled governor of Rivers State , Rotimi Amaechi.
This position was taken after a petition was submitted by the PDP Rivers State Executive Committee against the governor for violating Articles 58 1 (b), (c ), (h) and (m) of the PDP Constitution.
The NWC exercised its powers by suspending the governor as a member of the party and also went further to refer the matter to the appropriate disciplinary committee of the Party.
According to the party spokesman, Olisah Metuh, the action was in ”furtherance of the determination of the leadership of the Party to enforce discipline at all levels within the Party.”
Many observers, however, link the governor’s suspension to his now-contested victory in the Nigeria Governors Forum election which saw him being returned as the forum’s chairman.
The party reportedly saw his victory over Jonah Jang, the Plateau state governor as a situation which might not augur well for the president’s 2015 aspirations.
