Revenge Politics:Can a sitting PM or President lose party leadership?
Australian prime minister Julia Gillard has lost the leadership of the Labour Party to predecessor Kevin Rudd.
Ms Gillard, who had similarly ousted Mr Rudd almost exactly three years ago to the day, lost the leadership ballot by 57 votes to 45, party official Chris Hayes said.
Party members sought to act ahead of September's election, in which it is expected to suffer heavy losses.
Mr Rudd is now leader of the party but does not become the country's prime minister.
He would have to show that he can command a majority of politicians in the House of Representatives before the governor-general makes him PM.
Ms Gillrad and Mr Rudd have been bitter rivals for quite some time.

This can only happen in countries where 'real democracy' is in place and not in make-believe democratic countries.
