The horor and tragedy in Kenya.

The story of the brutal massacre in Kenya has been trending and its utterly heart wrenching.

Most of the remaining hostages held by terrorists in a Nairobi mall were freed tonight by Kenya's military following a two-day standoff that killed 68 people.
  • Kenyan security forces locked in stand-off with terrorists 24 hours after the gang began shooting in Nairobi mall
  • Up to 15 militant attackers believed to be holding about 50 people after attack which saw 175 people wounded
  • Somalian terrorist group al-Shabaab - which has links to Al Qaeda - claims responsibility for attack yesterday
  • Spokesman tells Channel 4 that westerners won't be safe in Kenya until country pulls its forces out of Somalia
  • US State Department confirms Americans were at the centre and says four US citizens were reported injured
  • Kenyan President loses two relatives in attack and vows to 'hunt down the perpetrators wherever they run to'

Tweets purporting to be from Al-Shabaab's official Twitter handle have appeared that describe the attack and state some of the group's grievances.
The group opposes Kenya's participation in a peacekeeping mission in Somalia.

The organisation claimed it had killed more than 100 Kenyan ‘kuffar’, a derogatory term used to describe non-Muslims.
