Who is the most followed person on twitter?

Katy Perry has ended Justin Bieber’s reign as the most popular person on Twitter. 

The Roar hitmaker’s follower count surpassed those of the 20-year-old singer over the weekend and as of Monday Katy had 46,529,048 to Justin’s 46,507,582, with both rapidly rising. 

This comes just nine months after Justin took over the most-followed title from Lady Gaga, following a two-year stint at the top.Gaga still holds the number three slot, followed by President Barack Obama and Taylor Swift. 

However, it has been claimed that both Katy and Justin have a huge number of ‘fake followers’. 

According to CNBC, StatusPeople, which determines how many of a Twitter user's followers are fake, estimates 41 percent of Justin’s followers are not real, while Katy’s total is thought to be 52 percent.

While Bieber is a prolific tweeter, Perry has revealed her ‘less is more’ motto where Twitter is concerned. 

‘I've learned how to ride social media,’ she told USA Today. ‘I have horrible typos. I use “there” or “your” wrong grammatically. But I feel like I've learned how to tame that social media dragon.

‘I see a lot of celebrities send out messages like that online, and I think, “Sweetheart, nobody knows about this so-called issue because we don't have you on Google Alert. You're just throwing another log on the fire.” I do it only in extreme cases if someone is jeopardising my character''
While Katy’s followers  were thrilled with the news, Justin’s hit out claiming most of her Twitter fans are fake.

Meanwhile, the duo are good friends with Katy even dressing up as Bieber for Halloween.
