Lupita Nyong'o says she's incredibly excited to be the new face of Lancôme.
The Oscar-winning actress was our standout star for this year's award season, and also our standout beauty. "Both talented and committed, true to her African beauty, and showing a great curiosity and open-mindedness in her career choices, Lupita is by essence the Lancôme woman," stated Françoise Lehmann, general manager of Lancôme International.
Nyong'o, who becomes the fourth Academy Award winner to become a face of Lancôme, joining Penelope Cruz, Kate Winslet and Julia Roberts, says she is truly honoured to represent a brand that she has always loved.
"I am particularly proud to represent its unique vision for women and the idea that beauty should not be dictated, but should instead be an expression of a woman's freedom to be herself," explains the 31-year-old, who in signing to Lancôme also becomes the first black celebrity to represent the luxury French beauty brand.
On why Lancôme chose the Mexican-born, Kenyan actress and star of 12 Years a Slave, Lehman explains: "[she is] a strikingly beautiful and intelligent woman, serenely but strongly living her life her own way, Lupita has this special kind of aura both enlightening and deep."
The first images of Nyong'o for Lancôme will be released in September 2014.
