The women were rescued by the operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Abia State Command.
Parading the women and other suspects on Tuesday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Geoffrey Ogbonna, said the rescued women were arrested at Osisioma junction in Aba.
He said, “In the course of our investigation, we found out that the women had earlier been rescued by the NSCDC from a baby factory in Umunkpeyi, Isislangwa South.
“We found out that the NSCDC later hired a commercial bus to convey them back to their hometown in Imo State.
“However, as soon as the driver dropped them off at Douglass Road in Owerri, the women chartered another bus to take them back to the baby factory.”
According to reports from Punch, the police also paraded three female suspects; Blessing Oluchukwu, Promise Onyezu, and Nkechi Kalu; who were arrested for allegedly trying to sell the unborn child of one of them ,Onyezu, said to be six months pregnant.
According to police, one of the suspects, Kalu, had earlier collected an advance of N50,000 from Oluchukwu, who was to buy the baby .
The police spokesman said the suspects would be charged to court after investigations had been concluded.
Hunger and desperation have taken over their minds and bodies. Pity they now reason through their stomachs and pockets.
