Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani girl who was shot by the Taliban in 2012 for advocating women's rights to receive an education in her country, has been announced as the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize winner. She shares the prize with Kailash Satyarthi, an Indian children's rights activist who has been spearheading the Indian movement against child labour.
Malala and Kailash were selected by the Nobel prize committee for their struggle against the suppression of children and young people and for the right of all children to education.
They will both receive $1.1 million.
Malala is the kind of role model Nigerian girls need. Congratulations to her.
