Kano child bride finally set free, murder charges dropped

Wasila Tasi'u, the 15-year-old child bride who poisoned and killed her 35-year-old husband, Umar Sani, and four others has been set free. The murder charges against her were dropped by prosecutors at a high court in Kano today Wednesday May 20th.
Prosecutors had been seeking the death penalty for Wasila.

The matter took a different direction when Lamido Abba Soron-Dinki, one of the prosecutors in the case, asked the presiding judge at the High Court in Gezawa, Kano state, to terminate the case of culpable homicide against Wasila Tasi’u'.
He said "With a heavy heart, I apply that the accused be discharged.” he said

Human rights groups and the international community put a lot of pressure on the court to drop the case since she had been married against her will at age 14.
