Actor Paul Walker, best known for his role in the Fast & Furious action movies, has died in a car crash after his friend lost control of a Porsche GT which smashed into a pole and a tree.
Walker, 40, who was in five of the six films about illegal street racing and heists, was attending an event for his charity Reach Out Worldwide
The star's representatives and official Facebook page confirmed his death yesterday.
The high-powered super-car spun out of control in Santa Clarita, north of Los Angeles, at 3:30pm, before it burst into flames.
The LA County Sheriff's department confirmed two people died but is yet to release names.
However Ame Van Iden, Walker's publicist, said in an email: 'Sadly, I must confirm that Paul did pass away this afternoon in a car accident.'
The fundraiser, to benefit victims of Typhoon Haiyan, was taking place in a nearby racecar shop.
Guests rushed to put out the flames with fire extinguishers but to no avail.
The actor's official Facebook page read: 'It is with a truly heavy heart that we must confirm that Paul Walker passed away today in a tragic car accident while attending a charity event for his organization Reach Out Worldwide.
'He was a passenger in a friend's car, in which both lost their lives.
'We appreciate your patience as we too are stunned and saddened beyond belief by this news.
'Thank you for keeping his family and friends in your prayers during this very difficult time. We will do our best to keep you apprised on where to send condolences. - #TeamPW.'
Walker, who leaves behind a 15-year-old daughter, was an investor in the Always Evolving auto shop in Valencia, California.
While at the event, Walker and a friend decided to take a Porsche GT out for a spin before the driver is believed to have lost control and spun into the light pole and tree.

Hollywood stars have paid tribute to the actor, including rapper and actor Ludacris, who tweeted his shock and sadness at his Fast and Furious co-star's untimely death.
Alongside a touching picture of the film's cast holding hands, he wrote: 'Your humble spirit was felt from the start, wherever you blessed your presence you always left a mark.
