Eva Mendes says women shouldn’t wear sweatpants — unless they
want their relationships to end.“You can’t do sweatpants. … No, ladies,
number one cause of divorce in America, sweatpants, no!” the 41 year old
told Extra.
The stunning actress and new mom dished out the
style advice after being asked if she wears comfortable pants around the
house. She repeatedly said “no” before explaining that sweats can
actually cause a couple to break up.
Eva, in fact, does throw on
sweatpants on occasion. Shortly after saying that wearing the comfy gear
leads to divorce, the actress revealed that it was all a joke.
Ryan Gosling has also told everybody to calm down from the uproar caused by partner Eva Mendes' sweatpants joke.
Twitter erupted on Wednesday when the actress joked on Extra that wearing such casual clothing around the house was the number one cause of divorce in America.
'Obviously
sweatpants thing was a joke,'Gosling tweeted on Thursday. 'Wearing them
now. That's right, tweeting in sweatpants. Rats! Said too much! You win
again Twitter.'
Mendes also Instagrammed a grovelling apology... to her favourite pair of sweatpants.
'Dear
favorite pair of sweatpants. I was just kidding when I said you're the
#1 cause of divorce. Everyone knows that orange crocs are the #1 cause
of divorce,' she wrote beside a picture of the offended apparel.
'Either way
it was a bad joke and feel terrible if you or anyone thought I was
serious. Thanks for understanding sweatpants. Sorry orange crocs.'
The
controversy kicked off when the 41-year-old, who's not married to
Gosling but they have a six-month-old daughter together, began
describing her style to Extra.
'Feminine?
I don't know? Because I don't really like pants. I mean I will wear
them - figuratively and literally - but I feel much more comfortable in a
dress or a skirt or something,' she said.
But when the host asked her if she never wore something lazy around the house, she recoiled in horror.
'No, no, no.
Sweatpants – no, no, no, no, no. You cant do sweatpants. No! Ladies,
number one cause of divorce in America: sweatpants. No! You cant do
that!'
A
number of viewers immediately took to Twitter slamming Mendes for her
comments, claiming that attraction should be based on more than just
appearances, with some pointing out that The Hitch star isn't even
hitched herself.
After
Gosling defended his baby momma on Twitter claiming he was wearing
sweatpants at that very moment, Ricky Gervais tweeted him jokingly
warning him he would 'die alone'.
'@RyanGosling
you disgust me. Do you want to die alone or something? Put some
trousers on. Love Ricky,' he wrote along with a rather disturbing
picture of himself, which Gosling retweeted.
So what do you think...is she right? In Naija I hear it's a no-no to wear hairnets and wrapper....men find them unappealing...*wink*
Rocking a wrapper topped with a hairnet is a big 'No' for me. It just spoils everything.
