Outcry over US Nigerian Doctor, Dr. Adeniran Abraham Ariyo who called for xenophobic attack against Igbos.

Adeniran Abraham Ariyo and Family

A Nigerian Medical Doctor based in Texas, United States few days ago made scathing statements online mocking the Igbos of Nigeria who lost their lives in the recent xenophobic attacks in South Africa.

This was obtained from screenshots taken from his facebook page where he made inciting statements condemning the Igbos for demanding the position of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory. He also made some other hateful remarks where he alleged that the Igbos are cursed and that they should be sent back to Onitsha.

In one post he is quoted as saying, "...You see how they are being slaughtered in South Africa, that's what is going to happen to them in Lagos...". He is yet to react to the backlash he is getting from concerned Nigerians on social media who have roundly condemned his hateful stance. Below is a screenshot of the conversation obtained from Facebook.

Dr. Adeniran Ariyo is a cardiologist in Dallas, Texas and is affiliated with Dallas Regional Medical Center. He received his medical degree from University of Ibadan and has been in practice for 27 years. He is one of 10 doctors at Dallas Regional Medical Center who specialize in Cardiovascular Diseases. Following general outcry on social media, Dr Ariyo has gone into hiding. He has removed all his pictures on Facebook and deleted his post.
A few days ago, a Change.org petition was filed against him, asking the Texas medical board to investigate him and for his medical license to be revoked. , states:

This is important because the massacre or extermination of any ethnic group is against UN law and of course the laws of United States. No ethnic group should ever have to be massacred due to hate for any reason whatsoever since there are legally accepted ways of dealing and settling differences. The world can not allow this to happen.”

So far, the petition has 4,618 supporters. Some of the reasons given by the supporters for signing is as follows;

I wish I am from the space right now! This is just sickening! A medical doctor that ought to be humane? A public figure? May God forgive us all & heal the world!

  11. Inciting anyone to attack another person because of their beliefs,colour,race,tribe,tongue,etc is totally wrong and unacceptable. This man has clearly crossed the line. What he thinks in his head should not concern us,but we should be mindful when he shares his hateful thoughts with others on Facebook or the social media because many people look up to him. He needs to retract his words and apologize to the world,especially the Ibos.
