And Amaechi is confirmed a minister as PDP senators stage a walk out

Former Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has been confirmed as a minister by the Senate after a rowdy session that culminated in the walk out of senators of the minority People’s Democratic Party in protest of the insistence of the majority All Progressives Congress that Amaechi be confirmed a minister. After the senate resumed regular plenary after a closed session, the atmosphere in the chambers became rowdy as senators from both parties argued whether the report of the senate ethics committee which recommended that Amaechi should not be confirmed because of the corruption indictment hanging over his head should be adopted or rejected.
Amaechi is contesting the indictment at the Court of Appeal. When it became clear that the APC senators were bent on having Amaechi confirmed as a minister, the PDP caucus led by the minority leader Godswill Akpabio staged a walkout.
Subsequently, when put to vote, the report of the ethics committee was rejected by the APC senator left in the chamber and Amaechi alongside, 17 other ministerial nominees were confirmed by voice votes.
