MTN fined N90m by NCC for poor services.

The multi billion dollar telecom, MTN Nigeria Communications Limited, has been hit with a fine of N90m for poor quality of service for the period July to December, by the Nigerian Communications Commission. This was stated by Director of Public Affairs at NCC, Mr. Tony Ojobo.

Consequently, he added, it had been communicated to the operator that it has till April 3 to pay the fine of N90m for the poor quality of service on its network.

Mr Ojobo also announced the postponement of planned takeoff of mobile number portability by three weeks.Number portability is an application that will enable subscribers to migrate from one service provider to another without losing their numbers. The service which was earlier scheduled to take off on March 25 had to be put off because mobile operators requested for three more weeks to test their systems.
He said the postponement also became necessary to enable the regulatory agency to sensitise Nigerians on how to port their numbers from one network to another.
The service is expected to put network operators on their toes in offering good quality of service at very competitive tariffs.

  1. The fine is a good start but N90M is still a tiny slap on MTN's wrist. The fine should be hefty enough to put them in check.
