Two women were allegedly turned away from a top London nightclub frequented by Kim Kardashian and Jay Z for being ‘too dark’ and ‘overweight’.
Lin
Mei, 29, claims she watched as two of her friends, Reisha and Tasha,
were asked to stand across the road from Dstrkt in the West End so the
manager could look at them properly.
The
two women were then allegedly told they were ‘overweight’ and ‘too
dark’ outside the club on Saturday night, despite believing their names
were on a guest list and they would have a table.
The fourth woman in the group, Zalika Miller, 26, told The Voice: ‘Prior to us actually getting to the club, the [promoter] wanted pictures of the girls that my friend was going to bring.
‘He
basically said, if she was going to bring black girls then they’ve got
to be of “a certain calibre”. She sent him pictures of me and another
girl that was coming and I guess he gave his approval.’
The
women claim that after being scrutinised at about 10.15pm they were
barred from entering and told the club was full – but then saw more
guests allowed to enter after them.
Ms
Miller, from north London, added: ‘The promoter went to the door girl
and asked why she wasn’t letting us in and she just said, “I don’t think
they’re good looking enough”.’
She also told BBC Newsbeat:
‘There needs to be equality. You need to let everybody in your club. I
shouldn't not be allowed into a club because of the way I look.’
The
award-winning club, which is open from Tuesday to Saturday, claims its
previous celebrity visitors include Rihanna, Bradley Cooper, Justin
Bieber and Will Smith.

A
protest was held outside Dstrkt last night following a social media
campaign, with demonstrators photographed holding banners with the
hashtag #DoILookDstrkt?
Karrueche
Tran, 27, the model and ex-girlfriend of singer Chris Brown, attended
an event at the club last night – and indicated that she was
disappointed to learn of the apparent incident.
She told BBC Newsbeat: ‘It's unfortunate to hear about something like that, especially something that I'm part of.
'I'm
half African-American too. I have god-sisters and family who have
darker skin as well. I don't support any sort of discrimination. I love
people for who they are.’
Dstrkt
has not yet commented on the claims, although the BBC reported that
someone identifying themselves as the manager insisted the club does not
turn away anyone based on race.
I can't believe this is happening in 2015. Shame on the management of Dstrkt. Smdh
